62nd Gaslight Parade and Antique Car Show ~ Ormond Beach

It’s an Ormond Beach tradition.  For the past 61 years on the Friday evening after Thanksgiving, vintage car owners have gathered at The Casements and paraded east on Granada Boulevard to the oohs and ahs of delighted auto enthusiasts and families alike.  The following morning the cars are all parked and on view in Fortunato Park at the base of the Granada Bridge.  Both events are free to the public.

The 62nd anniversary event will feature autos built from the turn of the century until 1994.  The event is sponsored by the Volusia Region Antique Automobile Club of America. To be a part of either the parade or the car show all vehicles must be original.  No modified, custom or hot rod vehicles will be allowed.  This year’s show will feature a 1957 Ford Thunderbird owned by Sam and Peg Musgrove of Eustis.  The car has been part of their family for many years.

The parade begins on Friday, Nov. 29 at 6 pm and travels east on Granada, then south on A1A as far as Harvard Drive.  Many parade watchers take advantage of the restaurants in the neighborhood before the event, getting a head start on the crowd that line up along the south side of the street.

This year, after the parade there will be an ‘after party’ at the Ormond Garage, 48 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach.  Car owners and car buffs can mingle at the restaurant which features memorabilia and autos from Ormond’s racing past, including a replica of the famed 1906 Stanley Steamer Rocket race-car, an artifact on loan from the city of Ormond Beach.  The Garage itself, recently retrofitted as a restaurant and brewery, was once a destination for the car owners who wintered at the Ormond Hotel in the early 1900s.  Car buffs in town for the Turkey Rod or the Gaslight can also enjoy their Thanksgiving meal at the Ormond Garage, which will be open on Thanksgiving Day.

The Saturday morning car show on Nov. 30 opens to the general public at 10 am and runs through 3 pm. There are multiple prizes for participating automobiles.

The club is still seeking cars to participate in both the parade and the car show.  Participation in the parade is free and there is no need to pre-register.  Simply arrive at The Casements, 25 Riverside Dr., Ormond Beach 32176 at 4 pm on Friday, Nov. 29 to register and line up.  Registration closes at 5:45 pm

Those wishing to participate in the car show should contact Emily Kroeger, (386-761-7987, kroegers3@att.net) for a registration form and to pay the registration fee.  Registration is only $20 per vehicle.
