Healthy Community Challenge ~ 2017

Palm Coast Mayor Milissa Holland enjoys tennis and walking, and she believes her active lifestyle contributes to a good quality of life. Now, Mayor Holland is challenging all Palm Coast residents to work on their health together - while also having fun and trying out some of the community's parks and amenities.

The inaugural Mayor's Healthy Community Challenge will begin Saturday, May 6, and will continue into early July. Participants can sign up for free and see the schedule of activities atwww.palmcoastgov.com/healthy. Recipes and fitness ideas will also be shared on the City's Facebook page, www.facebook.com/discoverpalmcoast.

The kickoff for the Challenge will be at 10 a.m. May 6 at Central Park's main stage, 975 Central Ave., Palm Coast. The Mayor will officially issue her Challenge and then everyone will take a quick walk around the lake at the park.

The kickoff is during the City's annual Arbor Day Celebration, which starts with the Arbor Day 5K Root Run/Walk at 8 a.m. and the event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The 5K is part of the Mayor's Healthy Community Challenge.

"The weather and beautiful amenities we have in Palm Coast make this a natural place for recreation," she said. "This Find Your Fitness initiative is open to everyone, with no pressure. No pounds to lose. No striving to look perfect. I simply want all of us to feel better and get healthier, and doing this together as a community could be a great motivator!"

Participants can try out any of the Challenge's programs they'd like during May and June. Most activities will be free of charge. A variety will be offered - including walks, tennis, bicycling, golf, yoga, swimming, pickleball, kayaking, and water Zumba at the pool!

Healthy recipes will be shared on Facebook, and participants will be able to post photos, recipes and tips for healthy living. The Facebook event page will also offer exercise suggestions that people can try at home.

"I'm really hoping that once we all see the results, wellness will become addictive in Palm Coast, and we'll want to continue the Mayor's Healthy Community Challenge for another round or two," Holland said.

So sign up today at www.palmcoastgov.com/healthy and join Mayor Holland for the kickoff at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6, at Central Park.
