Birds of a Feather Fest 2016 ~ Palm Coast

What's new for the second annual Birds of a Feather Fest set for Friday through Sunday, Feb. 5 to 7, in Palm Coast?!

The City of Palm Coast's annual birding festival has many new features this year - including a full day of birding trips on Friday, transportation provided for some of the big trips, and a "Meet and Greet the Experts" event at Palm Harbor Golf Club. And this year there's no separate registration fee!
Registration is under way at www.birdingfest.com for a full weekend of birding, workshops, presentations and family activities. Choose as much or as little as you'd like; many of the activities are free. Watch the festival's new video at: https://youtu.be/khnbzbUgSiA.

"One of the things that makes the Birds of a Feather Fest unique is that we're regional," said Event Founder Jason Giraulo, the City's Digital Communications Coordinator. "Palm Coast is a great home base for birding during Florida's winter. But for serious birders who want to venture out, we've put together an outstanding lineup of experienced and knowledgeable guides to lead big trips beyond the county lines on all three days of the festival."

This year's big trips will take birders to Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Viera Wetlands, Talbot Island State Park and Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park. Transportation will be provided for the Friday morning trip to Talbot Island, the Saturday morning trip to Paynes Prairie, and the Sunday morning trip to Merritt Island. Carpooling will be available for other trips.
Other featured birding trips this year include:
  • Woodpeckers and More at Princess Place Preserve
  • Shorebirds at Matanzas Inlet
  • Gull Fly-In at Frank Rendon Park in Daytona Beach Shores
  • Owl Prowl & Rail Walk at Princess Place Preserve
  • Raptors and Birds of Prey at Princess Place Preserve Eagles Nest
  • Beginner Bird Walks at Linear Park
  • Beginner Owl Prowl at Linear Park
  • City of Palm Coast spray fields
In addition to birding trips, the Birds of a Feather Fest offers workshops, an exhibit hall at the Palm Coast Community Center, activities for children, and lunches from a food truck. A Bird Photography Field Workshop and a class in Post Processing Your Photos is set for Friday. On Friday evening from 6:30-8:30, birders can 'Meet and Greet the Experts' and fellow birders at Canfield's restaurant at Palm Harbor Golf Club.

Saturday is the big day for beginners and families with children. The free Beginner Bird Walks at Linear Park will be held hourly on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with no pre-registration required. There's also no need to sign up in advance for the Wild About Birds presentation by Gina Holt. The day's other free activities, including the Introduction to Birding class, Beginner Owl Prowl, and Build a Birdhouse activity do require pre-registration because class size is limited.

This year's sponsors include Florida Hospital Flagler, Florida Power & Light, the Palm Coast Observer, Top Birding Tours, the Home Depot and Bright House Networks.
