FPCHS Sophomore Brielle Goldberg Recognized for Making A Difference

Brielle Goldberg has been recognized by Flagler County Family Fun as a Community Hero.  She is one of three sophomores at Flagler Palm Coast High School who founded "Let's Get Drown to Business."  This community service project, which has advanced outside of the local community, consists of advocating for water safety. Through this, Brielle has acted as a spokesperson at public events and has presented her work to the school board to show how her efforts and knowledge can help others and promote water safety, especially for the youth.

Goldberg stated, “I think my project, "Let's Get Drown to Business" is so important because it's to genuinely help others. The loss of a child, sibling, friend, etc. to something that is so preventable shouldn't occur so often. Of course I couldn't do this alone. With my two teammates; Ethan Christensen and Ashley Robshaw, we have put together a marketing plan to advocate water safety within our community so that youths are safeguarded against drowning. To do this, we have made informational texts such as brochures, bookmarks, and business cards, as well as books and activity sheets from Josh the Otter (world-wide organization) to get our message out to others throughout the community. We have partnered with the fire department to assist us in CPR training at upcoming events as well as the Chamber of Commerce and realtors to help us spread our message. Our project is simply our community resources combined to have the most impact. If the littlest things are done like bringing your child to swim lessons or keeping pool gates up at all times is done, then the chances of drowning has already reduced dramatically. "One Life Lost is One Too Many."”
